bonga-man-marketing
I was sittng with BABA (My Grandfather); he was talking and comparing today's technology, media with his times. He was saying, we also used to do aggressive marketing at our time in the village, may it be an entertainment show, product or service. We used to have the sales team who had speaker and a van where all the banners of the brand used to be flaunted and the speaker talks about the product. We were all ears to it, children used to run and listen to the Bonga Man (Man with a hand speaker), and run behind the van till it vanishes. The villagers were aware about all that happens in the village; of course we could not spread the message at one stance to everyone. And in your generation it is one post on Facebook and the whole world knows the news. People don't even watch TV, you papa used to watch a lot of TV (laughs) during you papa's Time TV and Newspaper was a popular medium for advertising (coughs).
When he was sharing about all the above, the conversation which caught my attention was a toothpaste brand, I was amazed when he said that even today, in our village people say “#Colgate Kiya Kya (Have you brushed your teeth?), the brand is used in the language they speak.
I realized how powerfully they used the offline media and create that space for brand in each and everyone's mind. It is just brilliant and an achievement for any brand to be humanized and used as a routine of life. The Brand created a world for itself in people's heart.
